My Journey to Refresh Sleep Solutions
Hello my name is Amy. I’m a wife and a mother of 3 young kids. I live in Edmonton, Alberta. Here is a bit of my story as to why I decided to become a sleep consultant.
To be honest, one of my biggest fears in becoming a mom was the sleep deprivation. When my first baby was born I started reading and researching about sleep and taught him very early on how to fall asleep on his own. I knew how important sleep was for his development and my own sanity. I used the same techniques with my daughter when she came along and felt like I had a pretty good handle on this baby sleep stuff. I would tell any mom who would listen about the benefits of teaching their baby to fall asleep.

When my third baby arrived 2 years later, I thought, ‘I got this’. Unfortunately we had a lot of situational stress in our lives at this time such as home renovations, an unplanned move and summer camping. All this made his sleeping environment very inconsistent. My little guy started waking up every hour some nights and I hadn’t had a solid chunk of sleep for months on end. I was completely exhausted and had a ridiculous amount of mom guilt. I felt like I was yelling at my kids all day long. I could hardly have a conversation with my husband without it becoming an argument. There were times when I was driving when I knew I probably shouldn’t even be at the wheel. When life finally settled down, we got back to the basics of his sleep plan, cut out the night feed and got him sleeping 11-12 hours straight within a few nights. We were all getting the sleep we needed and I felt human again.
After this ordeal I understood what it was like to be in a state of utter exhaustion. More than ever, I knew I needed to do something to help other moms who felt this way. I started reading more books about the science of sleep and baby sleep techniques and also sought out an excellent training program, Jammy Time Sleep Solutions with Shan Roth.
My experiences included 8 years as a high school teacher, 10+ years as a coach of various sports teams and 5 years in the field of social work. I also now had 3 young children who slept soundly for 11-13 hours each night. I felt I was ready to take my next step.
Now I am ready, willing and able to walk with you as you teach your baby to sleep well!
